What is a User Group? User groups are organizations of personal computer users that hold monthly meetings to learn more about their personal computer. At these meetings they answer each others questions, see product presentations, and share experiences with others. Non-members are welcome to attend these meetings in order to see how joining the group might benefit them.

Most user groups also hold smaller meetings each month called Special Interest Groups (SIGs) where more detailed information on certain uses of the computer are discussed. User group members often attend the main monthly meeting as well as one or two of the SIG meetings.

In addition, most user groups have monthly newsletters to inform their members of upcoming events, to share technical articles written by their members, or to print a review of an interesting new product. User groups also have web pages that keep their members and others informed as to where the group meets and what group activities are coming up that month.

How to Find a User Group? User groups are located in every state of the USA and in many other countries. Finding a user group near you will take a bit of effort, but the search is well worth the time. Since many user groups have web sites, using the web to locate a user group is the first place to start. You can use some of the web search sites to look up "user group" and that will get you started. There are also some excellent lists of user groups on the web. The following are two of the ones that we have found to be most complete:

If you do not find a user group in your area using these web searches, you should ask your local computer dealer if they are aware of a user group in your area. Look in your local newspaper for the community notices. Often user groups will announce their meetings in this way. Local computer shopper newspapers will also list user groups in their publications. In other words, keep your eyes open and you will eventually find a user group near you.

User Group Officers: User group officers can also receive special services from us to help them conduct their user group activities. To see what services we offer user group officers, please see our Officers Services page.
